THINK RELEASES U.S. EV-READY CITIES INDEX

oday, pioneering electric vehicle company THINK released its first U.S. EV-Ready Cities Index. The top four cities included first-ranked Los Angeles and second-ranked San Francisco with Chicago and New York tied for third. The THINK EV-Ready Cities Index was presented by THINK CEO Richard Canny at the Electric Drive Transportation Association Annual Conference and Meeting at the Washington Auto Show. The company recently announced plans to manufacture the THINK City electric car in Elkhart, Ind. with U.S. production slated to begin early next year.

San Diego, Portland and Sacramento were rated fifth, sixth and seventh putting four cities in California in the top-15 index. Rounding out the top ten were Newark, Seattle and Atlanta. The remaining cities included Denver, Boston, Washington, DC, Philadelphia and Phoenix.

THINK developed the EV-Ready Cities Index to measure which markets are most likely to begin and benefit from the transition to electric vehicles, providing an objective comparison of the EV purchase and usage incentives as well as the market fit for EVs.

"We expect that the roll-out of EV's to the U.S. market will be quite focused in the early stages. Some cities are more likely to be early adopters of EV technology, and the EV-Ready Cities Index will be a helpful tool to guide and prioritize the development of those markets. It reflects the available government support, consumer acceptance, and the opportunity for EVs to provide the maximum benefits possible from electric drive," Canny said. "Since EVs are a unique solution for congested urban environments, we are taking a city-by-city approach rather than a national or state-by-state approach."

The THINK EV-Ready Cities Index takes into account purchase and usage incentives – such as HOV lane access and infrastructure support – for electric vehicles as well as market fit, which includes factors such as hybrid sales, traffic congestion, EPA non-attainment zone status (air quality), and potential lower-carbon energy sources for vehicle recharging. The index was compiled for THINK by ASG Renaissance, a market research and business services firm located in Dearborn, Mich.

The U.S. EV-ready index mirrors one THINK developed for targeting markets in Europe, which recognized Oslo, Copenhagen and Amsterdam as the top-three markets. The company plans to continue to monitor EV-ready factors and periodically update and release its index.

"Ideally, we would like the THINK City to be available throughout the U.S. next year, but in our early commercialization phase, it is important that we first establish a strong concentration of sales in key, highly attractive markets, which support early adoption of sustainable, zero emissions transport solutions," Canny said.

THINK plans to begin selling the THINK City, which will have a top speed of more than 70 miles per hour and a range of more than 100 miles per full charge, in target U.S. cities beginning this year.

Enhanced Performance and Efficiency, Value Packages and No Price Increase

BMW has announced an early, exciting start to its 2011 model year in the United States. Most BMW vehicles receive minor changes for MY2011 in the form of options and new or revised packages, but some models are either all-new (for example, the new BMW 5 Series sedan and BMW ALPINA B7) or substantially updated (3 Series Coupe and Convertible). For existing models, what will not change for the start of the MY2011 are base Manufacturer Suggested Retail Prices.

Highlight: Expansion of "Value Packages" for 1 and 3 Series Models
In 2009, BMW introduced a "Value Package" – a $0.00 (No Charge) option that included leather upholstery and the integrated iPod adapter on the 5 Series and 328i/xi Sedans. As expected, the Value Package proved to be very popular, and as such, the concept is being extended to additional models. The $0.00 Value Package again includes leather upholstery and the iPod adapter as its key components but may also include several additional options, depending on the model.

Highlight: New "Convenience Package" Available for 1 and 3 Series
Throughout 2009 BMW spent time talking to Dealers and Client Advisors about possible ways to improve our option offering and the value of our package structure. Based on this feedback from Dealers and Client Advisors on, BMW has developed "Convenience Package" for the 1 and 3 Series for MY 2011. This package brings considerable value to a number of options that share the theme of Convenience and are typically ordered together anyway. The Convenience Package content varies depending on the model but always includes the Alarm System, Comfort Access (keyless entry) and Park Distance Control. It retails for as low as $1,000 on the 135i Coupe and Convertible.

Highlight: New Inline 6 Cylinder Twin-Scroll Turbo Engine (N55)
Beginning with MY2011 production, most models currently utilizing the twin turbo inline
6 cylinder N54 engine will switch to the new single twin-scroll inline 6 cylinder N55 engine. The new engine shares the same aluminum block as the previous engine but now uses a new cylinder head with BMW VALVETRONIC combined with a single twin scroll type turbo to deliver faster response and more efficiency. The performance figures remain the same at 300hp and 300 lb-ft torque but the efficiency improves by an impressive 7%. The new engine will be installed in the 135i Coupe and Convertible, the 335i Sedan, Coupe and Convertible, the new 535i Sedan when it arrives later this year, the 535i Gran Turismo arriving this spring and finally, the X6 xDrive35i.

The 300hp version of the twin-turbo N54 engine will continue to be offered in the
Z4 sDrive35i and upgraded versions of the N54 will power the 740i/Li, Z4 sDrive35is, and the 335is Coupe/Convertible.

1 Series Coupe/Convertible
The 2011 BMW 1 Series Coupe goes on sale this April with several improvements. In addition to the Value and Convenience Packages described above, the Cold Weather Package has been enhanced with a heated steering wheel and the retail price has been increased $150 from $600 to $750. A Harman Kardon Surround Sound System replaces the HiFi System Professional with no change in retail price ($875). In line with the very sporty nature of the 135i Coupe/Convertible, the 7-speed Double Clutch Transmission (DCT) replaces the STEPTRONIC automatic transmission with an option price of $1,575. The STEPTRONIC 6 speed automatic transmission will continue to be available on the 128i Coupe/Convertible for a retail price of $1,375.

Base MSRP (including $875 Destination & Handling) for all the 1 Series models remain unchanged for MY2011. The 128i Coupe and 135i Coupe start at $30,025 and $36,925, respectively. The 128i Convertible and 135i Convertible start at $35,075 and $41,225, respectively.

3 Series Sedan
The 2011 BMW 3 Series Sedan goes on sale this spring, and each model features changes worthy of mention. Headlining the news is BMW's all-new 300hp inline-6 engine for the 335i Sedan. BMW's enthusiast-celebrated 6-speed manual transmission remains standard, and the 6-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission remains optional for $1,375. New shift paddles (left-shift down, right-shift up) for the STEPTRONIC may be added to the Sport steering wheel for $100 when the $2,150 Sport Package is ordered.

For the first time since its introduction, the BMW 335d Sedan is now available with the
M Sport Package for $3,750. On all 3 Series models, the optional Harman Kardon Surround Sound System replaces BMW's HiFi Professional System.

The 328i Sedan and 335i Sedan start at $34,025 and $41,475, respectively, including $875 Destination & Handling. The 328i xDrive Sedan and 335i xDrive Sedan start at $36,025 and $43,475, respectively, including Destination & Handling. The 335d Sedan featuring BMW Advanced Diesel technology with BluePerformance starts at $44,825, including the 6-speed automatic transmission and Destination & Handling.

3 Series Sports Wagon
The 2011 3 Series Sports Wagon goes on sale this spring with an MSRP of $36,575 for the 328i Sports Wagon, and $38,575 for the 328i xDrive (all-wheel drive) Sports Wagon. New for MY2011 is the $2,350 Convenience Package, which includes Alarm System, Comfort Access, ultrasonic Park Distance Control, and BMW's Xenon adaptive headlights. On all
3 Series models, the optional Harman Kardon Surround Sound System replaces BMW's HiFi Professional System. Also for 2011, Vermillion Red exterior paint replaces Barbera Red, and Deep Sea Blue replaces Monaco Blue metallic exterior paint.

3 Series Coupe
BMW has substantially updated the 3 Series Coupe for model year 2011. Headlining the changes are new headlights and tail lights, a new hood and kidney grille, new side skirts, new wheels, and new front and rear fascias. Under the skin, the 335i Coupe has been fitted with the new "N55" twin scroll turbocharged inline-6 engine, and may be coupled to the standard 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic transmission. In addition to the new Vermillion Red and Deep Sea Blue exterior colors, Mineral White Metallic exterior paint will be available on the Coupe starting in June. On all 3 Series models, the optional Harman Kardon Surround Sound System replaces BMW's HiFi Professional System. Also, as part of the update, BMW has made new Bamboo Anthracite Wood trim available on the interior.

Perhaps the biggest news for enthusiast coupe drivers is the arrival of the BMW 335is Coupe. This high-performance model features BMW's award-winning twin-turbocharged inline-6 (N54), with output of 320 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. A special overboost function permits a temporary torque increase to 370 lb-ft. Cooling the extra heat generated by the increased power is a standard oil cooler and an extra water cooler (radiator), as well as the enormous front air ducts included with the standard M Sport upgrades. An emotionally charged sport exhaust system has been fitted to perfectly capture the serious driving intentions of the 335is. Black kidney grilles, mirror caps, and Shadowline exterior trim lead the eyes to the rear where a rear diffuser with a body-color and black insert is located. Inside, the 335is Coupe receives a full M Sport enhancement with unique trim and badges. Those enthusiasts who prefer not to have it will appreciate the ability to delete the standard glass moonroof. For the first time on the 3 Series (excluding M3) the Double Clutch Transmission (DCT) will be available on the 335is as a $1,575 option.

The 328i Coupe and 335i Coupe start at $37,075 and $43,525, respectively, including $875 Destination & Handling. The all-wheel drive models 328i xDrive Coupe and 335i xDrive Coupe start at $38,975 and $45,425 respectively. The high-performance 335is Coupe will go on sale in June at an MSRP of $50,525.

3 Series Convertible
Like the 3 Series Coupe, BMW has substantially updated the 3 Series Convertible for model year 2011. The 328i Convertible and 335i Convertible start at $45,875 and $52,075, respectively, including $875 Destination & Handling. The 335is Convertible goes on sale in April and will start at $59,075 including Destination & Handling.

5 Series Sedan
Long the segment leader in the premium midsize sedan class, the new 6th generation BMW 5 Series Sedan is set to arrive in the US market in early summer of 2010. The stylish MY2011 BMW 5 Series combines athletic looks, superb driving dynamics, and innovative comfort and safety features into an executive express that promises to remain at the top of the segment.

With the longest wheelbase in the class, a long and sleek hood, short overhangs, and a coupe-like roofline, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan stands out clearly from the competition. Overall, the aesthetic looks of the car are achieved through balanced proportions. Design features emblematic of BMW are to be found at the front with its kidney grille inclined slightly forward, in the stylish and elegant side view of the car, and at the muscular rear end.

Within the interior, precise functionality and a fresh ambience come together in perfect harmony, unmistakable style, and clear orientation to the driver.

Highly advanced drivetrain and suspension technologies combine agile handling for the driver and a high standard of riding comfort for passengers. When equipped with the Sport Package, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan includes Adaptive Drive, which encompasses Driving Dynamics Control, Electronic Damper Control, and Active Roll Stabilization. Optional Integral Active Steering will virtually extend or shorten the vehicle's wheelbase for improved stability at high speeds and enhanced agility at lower speeds.

At launch, the new BMW 5 Series Sedan will be available in the US with one V-8 and one inline-6 gasoline engine. The top-of-the-range BMW 550i arrives with BMW's "reverse-flow" V-8 engine featuring twin turbochargers and High Precision direct injection for maximum output of 400 hp. The new inline-6 of the BMW 535i features a single twin-scroll turbocharger, High Precision direct injection, and, for the first time, VALVETRONIC throttle-less intake technology. It delivers a maximum output of 300 hp and 300 lb-ft. The 535i and 550i will be available with a choice of 6-speed manual transmission, BMW's new 8-speed automatic transmission, or new "Sport Automatic" 8-speed.

Later, the BMW 528i will debut with a 240 hp inline-6 featuring lightweight magnesium-aluminum construction and VALVETRONIC throttle-less intake technology for efficiency and unparalleled responsiveness.

The new MY2011 BMW 5 Series will make its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show in late March 2010. Pricing and options will be released closer to market launch date.

5 Series Gran Turismo
The BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo made its production debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show last fall and went on sale in December 2009 as a 2010 model. Therefore, it continues as a 2010 model this year, but there is still some news to report. In April 2010, the original BMW 550i Gran Turismo will be joined by the new 535i Gran Turismo, featuring BMW's exciting new "N55" inline-6 engine. As the 550i Gran Turismo helped introduce the new 8-speed automatic transmission to the BMW line-make, the new 535i Gran Turismo will also feature the 8-speed automatic as standard. 0-60 mph acceleration will require only 6.2 seconds for the 535i Gran Turismo (5.4 seconds for 550i Gran Turismo). Compared to the 550i Gran Turismo, the 535i Gran Turismo features unique light-alloy wheel choices and forgoes some standard equipment, including auto-dimming mirrors, universal garage door opener, and Navigation system. Each 5 Series Gran Turismo model receives two new available exterior colors starting this spring, including Milano Beige and Damast Red. MSRP starts at $56,875 for the 535i Gran Turismo and $64,775 for the 550i Gran Turismo, including Destination & Handling.

5 Series Sports Wagon
The BMW 5 Series Sports Wagon will continue through to the end of production in April as a 2010 model. The 535i xDrive Sports Wagon starts at $56,825 including $875 Destination & Handling.

6 Series Coupe & Convertible
The BMW 6 Series Coupe and Convertible will continue as a 2010 models until the fall of 2010. The MY2010 650i Coupe and Convertible start at $79,325 and $86,425, respectively, including $875 Destination & Handling.

7 Series Sedan
The 2011 BMW 7 Series Sedan line that goes on sale this April will be the widest range ever in its 23 year history, comprising a total of 11 models. Along with the 750i xDrive, the 750Li xDrive, and the 760Li introduced last fall for MY2010, the 7 Series line will be supplemented by several new models and enhancements for 2011.

740i and 740Li with twin-turbo Inline 6 Cylinder Power
The new MY2011 BMW 740i and BMW 740Li achieve a remarkable balance of power, efficiency, and sporty driving dynamics. Both models will go on sale in the United States as 2011 models in spring 2010. The 740i models feature BMW's internationally acclaimed twin-turbocharged inline-6 engine (N54) with an output of 315 horsepower. All-aluminum engine construction, High Precision direct fuel injection, VANOS variable camshaft technology, and Brake Energy Regeneration are a few of the technologies used under the BMW EfficientDynamics engineering philosophy to place the 740i and 740Li among the most powerful six-cylinder luxury sedans in the world. Delivering power to the rear wheels is BMW's 6-speed automatic transmission, well-known for fast, smooth gearshifts and an ability to intelligently adapt to the driver.

Both models will be available with the full complement of well-known 7 Series options and packages, including the M Sport Package, Driver Assistance Package, Luxury Seating Packages, Rear Entertainment Package, and even the BMW Individual Composition Package.

The MY2011 740i and 740Li start at $71,025 and $75,425, respectively. All pricing includes $875 Destination & Handling.

The V-8 powered 750i, 750Li, 750i xDrive and 750Li xDrive
In addition to the many improvements announced for the beginning of MY2010. The MY2011 750 models benefit from additional equipment enhancements. The Convenience Package (a $1,700 value), which includes soft close doors, electric trunk opening/closing and Comfort Access, is now standard. The Top-View function that gives a complete camera view around the car while reversing has been added to the Camera Package. The package price has been adjusted from $750 to $1,200 based on the additional functionality. Active Roll Stabilization is no longer standard on xDrive models but is included in the optional
M Sport Package.

The MY2011 750i and 750Li start at $82,875 and $86,775, respectively. The 750i xDrive and 750Li xDrive start at $85,875 and $89,775, respectively. All pricing includes $875 Destination & Handling.

BMW ALPINA B7
The 2011 BMW ALPINA B7 sedan will join BMW's North American product range as the most dynamic 7 Series model. The BMW ALPINA B7 represents the second generation of ALPINA automobiles based on the BMW 7 Series to be offered in the US. The first BMW ALPINA B7 was offered as a limited edition for the 2007 and 2008 model years. Newly interpreted and based on the current BMW 7 Series platform, the B7 will again set the benchmark in terms of performance, refinement, technology, luxury and exclusivity.

Yielding exquisite levels of power and torque from the twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V8, and in conjunction with the electronically-adjustable suspension with active roll stabilization, the new B7 promises to offer a spectrum of driving experiences so broad as to be unheard of in this class of automobiles. The evolution of the traditional 20-spoke 21" ALPINA CLASSIC wheels underlines the fresh design language found throughout the B7 and imparts to it a distinctive appearance and powerful stance.

The B7 sedan is equipped with BMW's twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter, all-aluminum, High Precision Direct Injection V-8 engine which has been enhanced by ALPINA and is capable of producing 500 (373kW) horsepower and 516 lb-ft (700Nm) of torque. This rear-wheel drive performance/luxury Sedan achieves 0-60 mph in 4.5 sec. With maximum torque available across an unusually broad engine range, from 3,000 to 4,750 rpm, the B7 accelerates effortlessly from virtually any speed.

The B7 sedan is finished with ALPINA aerodynamic developments, including front and rear spoilers which not only enhance the appearance but also improve stability and performance at high speeds. In true "form-follows-function" fashion, the ALPINA front integrates the fresh-air requirements of the transmission and engine oil coolers, which are separated out of the main cooler module for improved efficiency. The spoilers reduce lift at the front by 30% and rear by15%. The exhaust system's two double tailpipes are seamlessly integrated into the rear bumper. The newest evolution of the traditional 20-spoke ALPINA CLASSIC wheels gives the B7 a distinctive appearance and powerful stance.

The interior of the B7 sedan features ALPINA blue illuminated door sill trims, the SWITCH-TRONIC steering wheel in hand-stitched LAVALINA leather, and the Black-Panel LCD screen instrument cluster branded with ALPINA.

The full complement of BMW 7 Series exterior colors remains available, in addition to the signature ALPINA Blue metallic paint. Both short- and long-wheelbase models will be offered. The BMW ALPINA B7 will go on sale at authorized BMW Centers in Spring of 2010. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

The Range topping Twin Turbo V12 powered 760Li
The all-new BMW 760Li Sedan went on sale in fall of 2009 featuring the latest iteration in BMW's decades-long history of harmonious V12 engines. This newest BMW V12 produces 535 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque with help from twin turbochargers and High Precision Direct Injection. The outcome is a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds in a stylish, luxurious package. The long list of standard features and amenities ensures the comfort of each occupant.

While the 760Li will not change Model Years until September, the top-view function has been added as standard. The MY2010 760Li Sedan starts at $137,425 including $875 Destination & Handling.

ActiveHybrid 7
On the heels of the ActiveHybrid X6, BMW announced the production versions of the all-new BMW ActiveHybrid 7, which also made its US premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show in December 2009. The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 will reach American shores late in the second quarter of 2010 as a 2011 model. Based on the 5th-generation BMW 7 Series, this unique car sets new standards for performance and efficiency in the premium luxury class.

The symbiosis of a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine with a 3-phase synchronous electric motor gives the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 a combined output of 455 hp and maximum torque of 515 lb-ft from 2000 – 3000 rpm. Power is transmitted via an 8-speed automatic transmission with the electric motor positioned between the engine and the torque converter. The electric motor receives its supply of energy from a lithium-ion battery developed specifically for this automobile.

The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 accelerates to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, while delivering fuel economy approximately 15% better than the 750i and 750Li. Auto Start Stop maximizes efficiency by avoiding engine idling when stopped. The ActiveHybrid 7 is distinguished by aerodynamically-tuned ten-spoke 19-inch Aero wheels, and is available in Bluewater Metallic exterior paintwork. The BMW ActiveHybrid 7L has a wheelbase increased by 5.5", all of which is devoted to the enhanced comfort of rear-seat passengers. Both models are available with a wide range of options from the portfolio of equipment offered on the BMW 7 Series.

The MY2011 ActiveHybrid 7 and ActiveHybrid 7L start at $103,175 and $107,075, respectively. All pricing includes $875 Destination & Handling.

Z4 Roadster
The all-new Z4 Roadster that was first introduced in the spring of 2009 will become a 2011 model this spring and offer the sport enthusiast with new several options.

First, a new M Sport Package is now available on the Z4 sDrive30i and the Z4 sDrive35i for $3,900 and $3,500 respectively. The M Sport Package includes the Adaptive
M Suspension, M Aerodynamic body package, 18" M light alloy wheels (with a 19" wheel option on the 35i), exclusive M exterior color Melbourne Red Metallic, M interior trim in Aluminum Carbon, sport seats, M door sills, footrest, gearshift lever, M steering wheel (with paddle shifters if equipped with Steptronic or DCT) and an Anthracite headliner. In addition, the M Sport Package can be combined with the Exclusive Ivory White Package (which adds Ivory White leather seats and trim on the dash and door panels) for a total of $5,350 on the Z4 sDrive30i and $5,050 on the Z4 sDrive35i.

Second, the new 2011 BMW Z4 sDrive35is model distills the BMW Z4 Roadster's performance potential to produce one of BMW's fastest and best-handling Roadsters ever. It arrives at authorized BMW Centers this Spring 2010.

This latest Z4 model is characterized by instantaneous response, a fantastic exhaust note, and a free-revving spirit. The engine features increased air intake flow and increased boost pressure to release more power. The turbocharger system developed for the engine of the new BMW Z4 sDrive35is maintains a high output throughout the entire engine speed range. Nominal peak torque is increased to 332 lb-ft available from 1,400 rpm to 4,500 rpm. Maximum output of 335 hp is delivered at 5,800 rpm. The BMW Z4 sDrive35is will complete the sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds (preliminary). Top speed of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is is limited electronically to 250 km/h or 155 mph.

Acoustic tuning of the exhaust system of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is gives the car a very unique sound across the speed range. The sound is characterized by a deep rumble with a focus on the low frequency sound range.

Electric Power Steering (EPS) on the BMW Z4 sDrive35is features very sporty programming, focused to provide intense and clear steering feedback to the driver. This enables the driver to turn-in with remarkable precision and confidence at all vehicle speeds. The BMW Z4 sDrive35is includes new M Sport upgrades such as M Aerodynamics and adaptive M Suspension. The adaptive M Suspension combines a ride-height reduction of 10 millimeters (almost 0.4") with electronically controlled shock absorbers to improve the vehicle's agility without compromising ride comfort. The M Sport upgrades emphasize the Z4's athletic character through aerodynamically optimized exterior features and customized interior components.

Special 18-inch light-alloy wheels in five-spoke design round off the sporty character of the Z4 sDrive35is. 19-inch light-alloy wheels are optional. In addition, the new model is further distinguished by a striking front bumper with a matte aluminum trim bar in each outer air intake, a rear bumper with accentuated surrounds on the tailpipes, and a rear diffuser finished at top in body color and black textured surface underneath. X3 Sports Activity Vehicle
The 2010 BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle continues unchanged through to the end of production later this year. The current X3 will be replaced with a new generation X3 produced in at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina assembly plant. The MY2010
X3 xDrive30i begins at $39,725, including $875 Destination & Handling.

X5 Sports Activity Vehicle
The Model Year 2011 X5 models will begin production in April 2010. Detailed information on the MY2011 X5 models will be released later.

X6 Sports Activity Coupe
The BMW X6 enters MY2011 with both increased efficiency and performance facilitated by the addition of an 8-speed automatic transmission and Brake Energy Regeneration. The result is that X6 xDrive35i accelerates from 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds (reduced by 0.2 seconds) while the X6 xDrive50i gets to 60mph in 5.2 seconds (reduced by 0.1 seconds).

Option changes include the addition of Lane Departure Warning and Active Cruise Control as stand-alone options for $950 and $2,400 respectively. Side View Cameras were added to Technology Package of the X6 xDrive35i making the new package price $2,500 and increasing functionality. The new Camera package for the X6 xDrive50i now offers both Side View and Top View for a retail price of $1,200. Finally, the Cold Weather Package is now $900 (reduced by $350) due to the deletion of the ski bag and heated rear seats.

M3
The M3 Coupe, Sedan, and Convertible models become 2011 models this spring . BMW ups the ante on the M3 Coupe and Sedan by offering a new "Competition Package" for MY2011. The package further enhances the highly responsive chassis by installing a 10mm lower suspension and 19" wheels with greater offset for a wider track. Combined with remapped Electronic Damping Control and Dynamic Stability Control systems, the M3 with Competition Package is the best handling production M car ever built.

The MSRP of MY2011 M3 Sedan, Coupe, and Convertible remain unchanged at $56,275, $59,275, and $67,925, respectively. All prices include $875 Destination & Handling. The Competition Package is available on the Coupe and Sedan models for $2,500.

M5 Sedan
The car that invented the category of ultra-high performance sport sedan back in 1985 takes a hiatus for MY2011. A new M5 Sedan based on the upcoming 6th generation
5 Series is planned but not ready to be unveiled yet.

M6 Coupe and Convertible
The BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible will continue as a 2010 models until the fall of 2010. The MY2010 M6 Coupe and Convertible start at $103,225 and $109,025, respectively, including $875 Destination & Handling.

X5 M and X6 M
The BMW X5 M and X6 M went on sale last fall as 2010 models in the United States. This spring they become 2011 models.

Featuring an all-new BMW M Power V-8 engine with 555 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, the X5 M and X6 M are the first BMW M products with twin-turbochargers, High Precision Direct Injection, xDrive all-wheel drive, Dynamic Performance Control torque-vectoring final drive, run-flat tires, and FlexRay on-board networking. Chevrolet At The Washington D.C. Auto Show

Chevrolet announced that greater Washington D.C. will be an initial launch market for the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle with extended range. The nation's capital and its suburbs join California and Michigan as the initial retail markets where Chevrolet will sell the Volt to consumers.

"The Chevrolet Volt demonstrates our commitment to the electrification of the automobile," said Tom Stephens, GM vice chairman, Global Product Operations. "So far, we have invested more than $700 million in the U.S. to reinforce our leadership in this new technology."

Chevrolet also announced a development and demonstration program with D.C.-area utilities Pepco and Dominion to introduce customers to electric vehicles and establish vehicle charging programs.

"Concentrating Volt sales in these three key initial markets allows us to give our first customers a high-quality experience," said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet general manager. "In addition to geographical considerations, each market also has progressive local and state government leaders and utility partners who are crucial in bringing electric vehicles to market."

Chevrolet will deliver more than 100 Volts to several utilities across the U.S. – including Pepco and Dominion, which serve Washington D.C. and its suburbs – as part of an extended demonstration program. The overall program includes 500 charging stations that will be installed for residential, business and public use. They will be used to learn more about the installation process, vehicle charging and to gauge customer feedback.

The program is made possible with a grant of more than $30 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds from the Transportation Electrification Initiative administered by the U.S. Department of Energy. Chevrolet has announced similar partnerships with several utilities in California and Michigan, as well as the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

The Chevrolet Volt is an electric vehicle with extended-range capability. It is designed to drive up to 40 miles on electricity without using gasoline or producing tailpipe emissions. When the Volt's lithium-ion battery is depleted, an engine/generator seamlessly operates to extend the driving range if there is no access to an electrical outlet to recharge the battery, providing peace of mind by eliminating range anxiety. Volt production begins later this year, and pricing has not been announced.

Testing in real conditions

The Chevrolet Volt has already logged more than a quarter-million test miles on pre-production vehicles, some of which are in service 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Accomplishments include:

* Chevrolet is using OnStar technology to refine the development of the current fleet of about 80 pre-production vehicles
* Testing under extreme climates and conditions, including hot-weather testing in Death Valley, cold-weather testing in northern Canada; and mountain testing at Pikes Peak
* The building of more than 300 pre-production battery packs

Technology beyond the battery

Chevrolet is expanding the Volt ownership experience with a smartphone (Droid by Motorola, Apple iPhone and BlackBerry Storm) application by OnStar that gives Volt owners 24/7 connection and control of vehicle function and OnStar features remotely.

Through Volt's mobile application, drivers can set or check charging, manually set grid-friendly charge modes for off-peak times, pre-condition the interior temperature using electricity and not gasoline, check EV range and more.

Other driver-friendly technologies include touch-sensitive controls on the center stack and screen; a fully digital interface that allows two-way interaction, personalization and access to information; and real-time feedback that provides guidance on how to drive more efficiently.

Chevrolet grows its family of small and compact cars

Chevrolet presents its family of fuel-efficient small cars at the auto show – including the Spark five-door mini car, Aveo RS show car and Cruze compact sedan. Revealed earlier this month in Detroit, the Aveo RS show car features a European-inspired hot hatch design that strongly hints at the upcoming Aveo production car.

Here's a deeper look at the cars:

Chevrolet Spark : The five-door Chevrolet Spark, the smallest member of Chevrolet's family of cars, brings style, roominess and versatility to a segment of extremely fuel-efficient small cars. Spark will provide great fuel economy, and its trim size makes it very agile in all kinds of driving conditions while still feeling substantial on the open road. The U.S. production version of the Spark will go on sale in early 2012.

"This small vehicle makes a big statement," said Margaret Brooks, Chevrolet marketing director for small cars. "With its fresh, youthful approach, we believe Spark will appeal to customers who want excellent fuel economy, functionality and style at an affordable price."

More details on the U.S. version of the Spark will be announced at a later date.

Chevrolet Aveo RS show car : The Aveo RS show car provides a glimpse of what designers have in mind for the future production car. Its electric Boracay Blue finish, motorcycle-inspired exposed headlamps and taillamps, low roofline, fender flares, large wheels and tires, and dual-cockpit interior hint at the next-generation Aveo.

"The current Aveo is a major player in Chevrolet's global small-car portfolio," said Campbell. "Our intent with the Aveo RS show car is to demonstrate Chevrolet's vision and design potential for a small car we think customers will love."

Focusing on Aveo's target audience of young buyers, Chevrolet gave the show car a sporty appearance inside and out. An aggressive front fascia; clean, uninterrupted body side lines; an integrated rear roof spoiler; wide stance; and large, 19-inch, five-spoke wheels with a gun metal metallic Chevrolet logo and Boracay Blue brake calipers suggest upscale style and dynamic handling.

The Boracay Blue continues inside, with accent stitching in the instrument panel dual cockpit, front and rear door panels, gear shift boot, parking brake and seat bolster.

The Aveo RS show car features the same small-displacement 1.4L Ecotec turbocharged engine that will be available in the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. Delivering 138 horsepower (103 kW), it performs like two powerplants in one, with the fuel economy of a small engine and the performance of a larger one. In the Aveo RS show car, the 1.4L turbo is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

Chevrolet has previously announced the new Aveo will be built at Orion Assembly in Orion Township, Mich., in 2011, a move that will restore 1,200 jobs to Southeast Michigan. Plant retooling is scheduled to begin later this year.

Chevrolet Cruze : The North American production version of the 2011 Cruze compact sedan makes its first visit to Washington show-goers. Already on sale in Asia and Europe with strong market acceptance, the Cruze has been refined for America, bringing a midsize car presence to the compact sedan segment.

Cruze will deliver many segment-leading features, more interior room and more cargo capacity than the competition, as well as upscale amenities such as Bluetooth, USB and navigation. It offers midsize roominess, safety and amenities with the fuel economy and expected price of a compact car. Cruze features 10 standard air bags and has achieved five-star safety ratings in every market where it is sold.

Cruze is expected to deliver segment-leading fuel economy with a new Ecotec 1.4L I-4 turbo with variable valve timing – including up to 40 mpg on the highway with a high-efficiency model. The all-new Cruze will be built in Lordstown, Ohio beginning in the third quarter.

VOLVO TRUCKS TESTS METHANE-DIESEL TRUCKS TOGETHER WITH SWEDISH CUSTOMERS

In February, Volvo Trucks will be starting field tests of methane-diesel engines in commercial operation together with a number of Swedish customers.

"We are doing this so as to offer the market a superior combination of environmental properties, energy efficiency, driveability and low maintenance costs," says Gunnar Ekwall, product manager for Volvo Trucks in the Nordic region.

The first seven customers participating in the field test are Borås Energi & Miljö, Ragn-Sells Sollentuna, Schenker-TGM Göteborg, Slaka Potatis Linköping, Svebol Logistics/Lidl Tumba, Viebke Åkeri Helsingborg and XR Miljöhantering Skövde. The eighth truck in the field test programme will be placed with a selected customer in the next few days.

The trucks involved are two Volvo 7-litre models, the Volvo FL and Volvo FE.

Increasing demand for better gas powered trucks
As the network of biogas stations continues to expand, the market is showing far greater interest in better gas-powered vehicles. With the unique technology that Volvo Trucks has chosen, the diesel engine runs on a mixture of methane gas and diesel oil. As a result, the benefits of gas power are combined with a diesel engine's estimated 35 per cent higher efficiency rating compared with an engine using spark plug ignition. The truck thus consumes far less energy than conventional gas-powered trucks.

Energy-efficiency and reliability
"In addition to lower fuel consumption, methane diesel technology also brings higher reliability and lower maintenance costs. What is more, the driver can always continue driving on diesel fuel alone, if no gas is available. This makes it a practical and realistic alternative for many customers, especially in areas where the gas distribution infrastructure is not yet fully established," explains Gunnar Ekwall.

How Volvo Trucks' FL/FE gas powered trucks work
The solution is based on Volvo's proven, reliable Euro-5 diesel engines. When the engines are converted for gas operation, special tanks are added for pressurised methane gas (CNG/CBG). In addition, a separate fuel system is added with gas injectors in the inlet manifold. The trucks are converted for methane-diesel power in co-operation with Stadspartner using Hardstaff technology.
A small amount of diesel is injected and ignited by the compression, which in turn ignites the methane gas/air mixture. This saves the need for a spark plug and allows Volvo to make full use of the efficient diesel technology. As a result, the power and driveability are identical to that of a conventional diesel truck.
The amount of diesel required during operation varies, but Volvo Trucks aims to minimise the proportion of diesel.

Both natural gas and biogas consist of methane. The difference is that natural gas is a fossil fuel, whereas biogas is produced from biodegradable material such as waste.

Green-Car-Guide Game launched

Green-Car-Guide.com, the UK's original green car news website, has launched the Green Car Game, an innovative and engaging new way to raise awareness of the emissions and fuel economy of best-in-class green cars.

The game is based on the content of the site's Green Car Guide, which is updated monthly and contains the lowest emission cars in ten different categories.

Honda Vehicle Earns #1 Ranking on ACEEE's "Greenest Vehicles of 2010" List for the Tenth Year in a Row

Four Honda vehicles earned recognition from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) as among the "greenest vehicles of 2010" with the Civic GX natural gas car earning the title of American's greenest vehicle for the seventh consecutive year, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today. In the annual ACEEE's "Green Book® Online" ranking of environmentally responsible vehicles (available at www.greenercars.org), the near-zero emissions natural gas-powered Civic GX ranked first with the Civic Hybrid, Insight and Fit joining the list on the ACEEE's 12 most environmentally responsible vehicles available to the public.

This is the tenth year in a row that a Honda vehicle received the number one ranking and the ninth consecutive year that Honda vehicles held at least three positions in the top 12. This year's list also marks the first appearance of the next-generation Insight in its first year on the market.

"Honda's rankings in the ACEEE study are emblematic of our commitment to lowering emissions and increasing fuel efficiency in all of our models," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda. Tesla Motors Opens Chicago Store

Test-Drives of the Electric Car Available Starting January 21st at Tesla's Chicago Store

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tesla Motors, the only automaker producing highway-capable EVs will celebrate the opening of its Chicago store on Thursday and offer test drives throughout the weekend of the world's most exciting electric vehicle, the Tesla Roadster.

The City of Chicago, in collaboration with Chicago Area Clean Cities Coalition and Gas Technology Institute, was a recipient of a US Department of Energy 2009 Clean Cities Petroleum Reduction Technologies grant. The award aims to reduce vehicle emissions, displace 3.08 million gasoline gallon equivalents of petroleum every year, deploy 554 alternative fuel and hybrid vehicles and install 149 alternative-fuel fueling and electric vehicle charging stations throughout the Chicago region.

"With over 50 Roadster owners in the area, Chicago is an important market and strategic base for Tesla," said Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

US Roadster customers get a $7,500 federal tax credit and the Illinois Alternate Fuels Rebate Program provides a rebate of $4,000.

Tesla's Chicago store, located at 1053 W Grand Ave., is also the newest regional hub for Tesla's pioneering mobile service squad. Professional technicians known as Tesla Rangers will travel to customers' homes and perform annual inspections, firmware upgrades and other services. Tesla uniquely offers "house calls" so all customers can enjoy service from their home or office.

Tesla's house-call approach is an innovative initiative to give customers peace of mind – whether they live in Chicago, Indianapolis or Iowa City. The Chicago facility will be the service hub for customers throughout Illinois and the Midwestern United States.

The Roadster Sport, with an acceleration of 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, consumes no gasoline. Owners simply charge the Roadster overnight and wake up to the equivalent of a full tank – roughly 240 miles of driving. The Roadster requires less routine maintenance than conventional cars. It does not need regular oil changes or exhaust system work. Roadsters have no spark plugs, pistons, hoses, belts or clutches to replace. Zero tailpipe emission means no smog checks.

EnerDel Plans to Invest $237 Million in New Indiana Lithium-Ion Battery Plant, Creating 1,400 New Clean Tech Jobs

Lithium-ion battery manufacturer EnerDel announced today it will invest $237 million in a new manufacturing plant near its Indianapolis headquarters in order to meet anticipated demand for advanced battery systems used in both automotive and stationary smart grid applications. Backed by a mix of private funds and public incentives, the new facilities will more than double EnerDel's U.S. production capacity and create 1,400 new jobs.

The announcement came during a special unveiling at the EnerDel facility of the new EnerDel powered C30 electric vehicle platform for Volvo Cars, the best selling platform within Volvo. The unveiling was to commemorate 18 months of collaboration between the two companies, with EnerDel and Volvo management outlining the C30's imminent path to commercialization to gathered media and investors. Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels joined EnerDel and Volvo executives for the event.

State and local economic development incentives are valued at $69.9 million, which comprises a state incentive package of $21.3 million and Hancock County package valued at $48.6 million. EnerDel has also applied for an additional $9 million from Federal Government development programs.

"Demand for high-performance lithium-ion battery systems is expanding dramatically, for vehicles of all sizes as well as the utility grid, and we are going to be fully prepared to meet it with a product stamped 'Made in America'," said Charles Gassenheimer, Chairman and CEO of EnerDel parent company Ener1, Inc. ( HEV).

The new plant will give EnerDel the capacity to produce battery packs for approximately 600,000 hybrid electric vehicles, or 60,000 battery electric cars. It will be financed through a $118.5 million grant awarded under the federal stimulus package under a 50:50 cost-share program, of which EnerDel plans to spend $60 million in 2010. The project represents just the first stage of the company's expansion plans in the Indianapolis area.

"We're out to be the capital of the electric vehicle industry and EnerDel is at the center of those hopes," said Governor Daniels.

As demand for electric drivetrain technology grows, Indiana is emerging as the industry's central player. And a location affording easy access to both domestic and transplant car manufacturers in the U.S. is seen as a critical advantage for EnerDel.

"Indiana is fast becoming the Silicon Valley of the 21st Century auto industry," Gassenheimer said. "We're here because of the talent, the automotive industry experience and the remarkable network of electric drivetrain companies that call this state home. This immediately follows our electric vehicle partner THINK's announcement to establish their U.S. manufacturing facility here, in Indiana."

EnerDel will immediately begin to occupy more than 211,500 square feet of newly-constructed space in the Axcess70 industrial park in Mt. Comfort, Indiana, with a two year option to purchase the entire facility which is comprised of 423,000 square feet. The company is currently in the process of hiring new engineers, production associates and other staff as build-out progresses. Axcess70 is a 153 acre industrial and distribution park developed by a joint venture between Browning Investments, Inc. and Real Estate Capital Partners and consists of two speculative buildings located just north of the I-70/Mt. Comfort Interchange, which is currently being expanded.

EnerDel has commercial and strategic partnerships with industry leading companies including Volvo, THINK, Nissan and Mazda, and is supplying batteries for a prototype hybrid version of the Humvee being tested by the U.S. Army. EnerDel batteries have recently been chosen for smart grid projects in the U.S. and Japan.

The company also has an ongoing application for a long-term, low-interest loan under the federal Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing program, which was created under the 2007 Energy and Security Independence Act 2007 to help U.S. automakers and their suppliers meet stronger fuel economy performance standards.

Peugeot 308 CC will be the first model to benefit from a new 1.6 litre diesel engine

The Peugeot 308 CC will be the first model in the Peugeot range to benefit from a new 1.6 litre 112 bhp diesel engine. This new engine is the result of Peugeot's continual development and optimisation of its diesel HDi FAP technology, widely acclaimed for its performance and efficiency.

This new 1.6 litre HDi FAP diesel engine has been designed to meet the requirements of the new Euro 5 emission standards. It also benefits from a number of improvements over the current 110 bhp unit with improved performance in terms of flexibility and responsiveness, as well as noise reduction, while at the same time reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Thanks to its new hi-tech design, this new four cylinder engine with a capacity of 1,560 cm3, and eight valves, has a maximum torque output of 270 Nm at 1,750 rpm, an increase of 12.5% over the current engine, and during overboost, 285 compared to 260 Nm. It also has a very wide operating range with high levels of torque available at all times, ensuring good driveability and reduced fuel consumption on a day to day basis (since the user can drive more often at lower engine speeds): 135 Nm from 1000 rpm, 242 at 1500 rpm, 270 from 1750 to 2000 and 224 Nm at 3500 rpm. Its maximum power output is 112 bhp at 3600 rpm.

New-generation technology

A number of technical developments derived from the extensive know-how of Peugeot's engineers in terms of HDi FAP diesel engines, have made it possible to achieve these improvements. Between this new 1.6 litre HDi and its predecessor, more than 50 % of the parts have been entirely redesigned.

For example, like the new V6 3.0 litre HDi and 2.0 litre HDi diesel engines that were launched this year, Extreme Combustion Chamber System (ECCS) technology is much to the fore.

This state-of-the-art combustion chamber design offers:

a lower compression ratio (16.0 compared to 17.5 previously) for enhanced performance and reduced emissions (including NOx).
an increase in the diameter of the combustion chamber (+10%), helping to reduce the quantity of unburnt fuel as a result of less contact with the chamber "walls".
a reduction of the SWIRL (air movement in the combustion chamber) of nearly 10%, thereby reducing heat loss against the walls.
This technology is combined with a new common rail injection system (Continental Automotive System) where the injection pressure is increased to 1,650 bars (compared to1600 previously) as well as new piezo-electric injectors with seven apertures (instead of solenoid injectors with six apertures as fitted to the previous 1.6 litre HDi diesel engine).

The engine management software has also been entirely redesigned to give this unit more comprehensive injection mapping (up to 5 injections per cycle), improved efficiency and better diagnostics for after-sales service. This helps to improve the homogeneity of the air/diesel fuel mixture for maximum performance, reduced fuel consumption, a reduction of emissions at source and quieter combustion.

The engine also uses a Honeywell Turbo Technology variable-geometry turbocharger optimised in terms of its size. Being smaller, it has a lower inertia, reducing response times to a minimum. An improved exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR valve) and the reduction of internal friction losses allows maximum enhancement of engine efficiency while minimising potential energy losses. Like its predecessor, this 1.6 litre HDi comes as standard with a diesel particulate emission filter (FAP) with a service life of 112,000 miles.

This new engine will be available in the 308 CC in both Sport and SE trim levels.

New electric vehicle test in France

In the presence of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Renault, EDF, GBH (Groupe Bernard Hayot), Total Réunion, GE Money and the GERRI agency today signed a letter of intent on the experimentation of 50 electric vehicles in Reunion together with battery charge infrastructure powered mainly by renewable energies.

The letter of intent signed today in Reunion by the six partners mentioned above, under the patronage of Nicolas Sarkozy, marks their commitment to the VERT project (Electric Vehicle for a Technological Reunion), a principal component of the GERRI program (Grenelle Environment Forum in Reunion – Succeeding in Innovation).

The document establishes the framework of an experiment to test electric vehicles and the corresponding charge infrastructures powered by dedicated renewable energy sources (notably photovoltaic). The idea behind the project is to demonstrate that the overall CO2 performance of the electric vehicles in Reunion is superior to that of today's thermal combustion and hybrid vehicles.

The purpose of the VERT program is to test the implementation of a network of charge infrastructures sized in number and charge technique (normal or fast) to meet the mobility needs of a territory with a limited geographical area.

VERT is also an opportunity to test specific electric mobility offers aimed at company or government vehicle fleets and at individual customers.

Lessons learnt from the project could be applied to countries or regions with similar electric systems.
The French Environment and Energy Management Agency, ADEME, will be submitting a file on the VERT project at an upcoming call for expression of interest (EOI).

FISKER AUTOMOTIVE SECURES ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR PLUG-IN HYBRIDS

New American carmaker Fisker Automotive has secured access to an additional $115.3 million in private equity funding to develop plug-in hybrid cars.

This funding is necessary for Fisker Automotive (www.fiskerautomotive.com) to access a $528.7 million U.S. Department of Energy conditional loan that will, in part, help speed completion of the Fisker Karma, the company's first plug-in hybrid.

The raise comes at a time when capital is scarce, the auto industry is struggling and the global economy is just beginning to rebound.

Starting at $87,900 the Karma paves the way for development of lower-cost plug-in hybrid technology for a second, family-oriented car code named Project NINA. Project NINA is expected to be built in Wilmington, Delaware at a former General Motors assembly plant starting in 2012.

"Raising $115 million in these times speaks volumes about the value of our business model and the vast potential of plug-in hybrids," said Henrik Fisker, CEO.

Investors include A123 Systems, Ace Investments and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

Fisker Automotive earlier this week signed a multi-year supply agreement with A123 Systems for the lithium-ion batteries that will power the Karma.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced an unprecedented collaboration by its Canadian unit Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) and Hydro-Québec that will put up to 50 zero-emission all-electric i-MiEV passenger cars on the streets of the City of Boucherville, an independent municipality and a suburb of Montreal, in the largest Canadian project ever fielded to integrate, test, and evaluate all-electric vehicles on urban streets under real-world conditions.

Announced also at the Montreal International Auto Show, the pilot program will expose fleet drivers from Boucherville, Hydro Québec, and other approved companies to the Mitsubishi i-MiEV all electric minicar, in both fall and winter urban conditions.

Protoscar unveils its electric sports car prototype LAMPO2 at the Geneva Motor Show 2010

LAMPO2 is an electric demonstration sports car conceived by Protoscar, a Swiss company which has been developing CleanCar projects for 23 years including consulting of OEMs, power utilities and governments. The LAMPO2 boasts "quick-charging" capability (up to 100 km range extension in just 10 minutes charging time) and will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show (2nd March 2010) on the e'mobile stand Nr. 5141.

LAMPO2 is an even more energy efficient successor to the LAMPO demonstration vehicle presented in 2009. Weight, aerodynamics and the efficiency of individual components of the BRUSA drive train have been further optimized in order to reach a world-class energy consumption of less than 100Wh/km-ton under real conditions. LAMPO2 is equipped with 4 different charging modes:

• standard single-phase with up to 3,3kW on board charger for typical overnight home-charge,
• "control-pilot" equipped and (EDF provided) PLC single-phase with 6,6kW on board charger typical for public charging,
• standard three-phase 9,9kW on board charger typical for charging at industrial plugs (fleet-owners) and
• an interface for DC fast charging (able to transmit a max. power of 80kW), where up to 100km of additional range can be charged within just 10 minutes, by an off-board system, so that the different solutions can be compared in terms of usability and efficiency by being demonstrated in real conditions.

LAMPO2 will be shown together with different charging infrastructure solutions: a smart home charge device (developed with ALPIQ), the public charging station E-TOTEM and the quick-charging station (developed with ABB and Brusa).

LAMPO2 impressively demonstrates that electric drive-trains are mature and perform sufficiently well to be a solution for all types of vehicles, not just city cars. This includes premium cars, the segment through which most new technologies have successfully been introduced into the market.

Together with the first LAMPO (which has already been driven over 10'000 km on race tracks and public roads across Europe), LAMPO2 will be used for practical demonstrations and testing. Protoscar has repeatedly been encouraged to develop an advanced electric cabriolet for small-scale production and plans to use the LAMPO2 to evaluate this possibility. The evaluation will include discussions with potential industrial and financial partners, and an assessment of the preferences and desires of potential clients. In addition to BRUSA, which supplies the components of the whole drive train, the main partners and sponsors of the LAMPO2 project are ALPIQ (the leading Swiss company in power generation and distribution, which is actively promoting the goal of 15% of electric vehicles in Switzerland by 2020), the German Fraunhofer Institute IAO (EV-specific features and MMI, as well as optimization of the ergonomics), ABB (DC fast-charging technology) and the Swiss Federal Office of Energy.

Technical details LAMPO2 has two electric motors (allowing it to operate as a four-wheel drive with variable torque between front and rear axle for optimal handling, safety and efficiency) with a total output of 260 kW (equivalent to 350 HP), 600 Nm (50% more than its predecessor!) and over 30 kWh of Lithium-Ion battery capacity. LAMPO2 features real sports-car performances: 5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, 200 km/h of max. speed and a range of over 200 km. More than enough energy for driving is produced by a remote solar plant which is installed on the roof of a farm in Tuscany, allowing a real zero-emission drive on a "Well-to-Wheel" basis.
